Life Sentences For East London Killing

A man and boy have been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of a murder in east London.

Jason Michael, 39 and Harry Farrant, 14, of of Hewett's Quay, Barking were found guilty on 29 October at the Old Bailey following a three week trial.

They were charged with grievous bodily harm on a 29-year-old man on 14 February at the Captain Cook pub in Broadway, Barking and the same on a 49-year-old man on 13 April at the Victoria pub in Axe Street, Barking and the murder of Daniel Leahy, 45 on 13 April at the Victoria pub in Axe Street, Barking.

Both were jailed for life, with Jason Michael to serve a minimum of 19 years and Harry Farrant a minimum of 14 years.

By way of background, police were called at 9pm on 13 April regarding a stabbing at the Victoria pub.

Daniel Leahy from the Barking area was pronounced dead at the scene and a post mortem examination gave cause of death as stab wounds to the chest.

It is thought that Mr Leahy was involved in some sort of altercation with two males shortly before he was attacked.

A second man - aged 49 - suffered a minor cut to the head during the incident.

Murder Inquiry Launched Into Bookies Death
Police in Barking have launched a murder inquiry into the death of a 60-year-old man. Leslie Bones of Merton Road collapsed on Saturday, 19 April inside Coral bookmakers, Station Parade. Mr Bones died in the early hours of Sunday morning in hospital after being attended to by emergency services at the scene.

Sixth teen charged with stab murder
A 13-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of east London teenager Paul Erhahon - the sixth person to be charged in connection with the case. The youth, who was arrested in east London on Wednesday, has also been charged with the attempted murder of Paul's 15-year-old friend who was also stabbed in the attack.

Police Appeal For Information Over Unexplained Death Case
Police investigating the death of a 25-year-old man in Dagenham have appealed for help in tracing the last person believed to have spoken to him. Jack Taylor, of Hogarth Road, Dagenham, was found dead on Monday, 14 September, at about 13:30hrs at Barking Abbey ruins, off Abbey Road, Barking.

Man Arrested After 14-Hour Stand-Off With Police
A man has been arrested following a 14-hour stand-off with police in Dumfries. The stand-off began on Monday night in Syrne Road in the Lochside area, with armed police, plain-clothes officers, an ambulance and trained negotiators involved. The area surrounding the house sealed as a precaution, police say.

Police Concerned For Missing Teenager
A young girl is believed to have run away with an older man. Sixteen-year-old Lisa Wright, from Dagenham, Essex, went missing on her way to school on April 28. The teenager has contacted her mother, Angela, twice but has refused to say where she is.
