Man Dies, Three Serious After Blaze

A suspicious fire has killed a man at his family home in Lancashire.

Abdul Aziz Mohammed, 41, died as the house on London Road, Blackburn, was engulfed by flames on Wednesday.

His wife, 39, son, aged eight and 14-year-old daughter were rescued by fire crews but are still in a "critical" condition in hospital, said police.

The force and fire chiefs said the incident was of a "suspicious origin".

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service added: "We are investigating the fire together with Lancashire Police to establish if it was deliberate or not."

Flames were seen shooting out of the front door of the house when fire crews arrived at 1.30am yesterday morning.

One of the children is understood to have been badly burnt in the fire.

Prayers were held at a local mosque on Wednesday evening for Mr Mohammed's wife and children.
