Vaccine Death Girl 'Died From Tumour'

A teenager who died shortly after receiving the cervical cancer vaccine died from a malignant chest tumour, it has been revealed.

Natalie Morton, 14, collapsed just hours after receiving the Cervarix jab at the Blue Coat Church of England School in Coventry on Monday. She died later that day in hospital.

Following Natalie's death, some schools and primary care trusts temporarily suspended their vaccination programmes over fears that the vaccine may have been a factor in her death.

An inquest was open and adjourned at Coventry Magistrates Court. It heard that a post-mortem had revealed that Natalie died from a malignant tumour in her chest, which affected her heart and lungs.

The pathologist who carried out the examination said that the tumour was so severe that the teenager could have died at any time.

Louise Hunt, Deputy Coroner for Coventry, said that the Cervarix vaccine is not though to have been a contributing factor in her death.

Speaking outside the court, Natalie's stepfather Andrew Bullock told reporters she was a "kind and fun-loving teenager with a beautiful smile".

The vaccination programme for 12 and 13-year-old girls began in September 2008 across the UK. Older girls are now being given the Cervarix vaccine in a catch-up campaign.

Around a million teenage girls are believed to have already received the vaccine safely.
