Police Probe Pensioner Stabbing

A pensioner is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in greater Manchester.

Police were called to Ollier Avenue, in Gorton, shortly after 11.40pm on Saturday.

Officers discovered a 74-year-old man had been stabbed.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a "stable but poorly" condition.

Sergeant Daniel Clegg, from Longsight CID, said: "We are still trying to establish exactly what has happened to the victim but I believe he was the victim of a robbery.

"Anyone prepared to stab a 74-year-old man is clearly an extremely dangerous person and needs to be caught."

Mr Clegg said the victim presents absolutely no harm to anyone and was simply making his way home.

"I am certain someone in the community knows something about this attack and I would urge them to think about how they would feel if this was their father or grandfather and to get in touch with police," he said.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw what happened.

"I must stress incidents like this are rare and we are working to identify this offender and get him off the streets," added Mr Clegg.
