Strabane GP Sought Off Donegal Coast
An abandoned car on a scenic Co Donegal beach has sparked a major alert amid fears for a Co Tyrone GP - who has a holiday home in costal Donegal.
She is being urgently sought today after concerns mount about her whereabouts.
A full-scale search is still underway today for a woman who went missing from Kinnegoe Bay, near Culdaff, on Sunday morning.
The woman, named locally as Dr Deirdre Donnelly O'Flaherty, is a 41-year-old mother of three living in Strabane, but with a holiday home at Kinnegoe.
Her husband Ken, also a doctor, is the son of a retired doctor Kenneth O'Flaherty, of Moville.
A man walking the beach at Kinnegoe just after 10.30am on Sunday noticed a silver BMW with the keys still in the ignition at the scenic spot.
He immediately reported the incident to local Gardaí who contacted Malin Head Marine Rescue Co-Ordination Centre.
A major search operation commenced shortly after 12.30pm, involving the search and rescue helicopter from Sligo, Greencastle Coast Guard inshore lifeboat, the RNLI Portrush all-weather lifeboat, Gardaí and volunteers.
Search operations continued until well after midnight on Sunday and resumed at 8am yesterday.
The search and rescue helicopter stood down as dusk fell last night at 4pm but RNLI, coast guard and ground searches continued into the night.
