Bangor Man Fighting For Life After Belfast Attack
A weekend attack in south Belfast has left a man fighting for his life.
Police are currently questioning two men about the attack, which happened in the Markets area on Friday night.
The victim – 41-year-old taxi driver Jeremy Mooney from Bangor – remains in a critical condition in hospital.
Mr Mooney was on his was to a concert with friends when he was beaten.
He was walking through Sussex Place when up to five people attacked him.
Police have suggested the attack happened around 9.40pm.
Dawn McClure, Mr Mooney's girlfriend, is horrified by the injuries her partner sustained.
"I couldn't believe it. It wasn't the guy who went out with me. We were laughing and joking.
"He was lying there, he cannot even breathe for himself. He has got a machine to keep him here."
A police spokesman said: "It is understood that there were three males and two females in the group responsible for the assault.
"Initial enquiries suggest that the man was walking through the area with a group of three friends, specifically two females and second male."
It is believed two doctors - possibly both men - stopped at the scene to help Mr Mooney.
"Police seeking witnesses to the incident would like to speak to these two people or anyone who can help identify them," added the spokesman.
A motive for the attack is still being investigated.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
