School Bus Death Teen Named
The teenage girl who died today after a lorry crashed into a school bus forcing it into a nearby garden has been named locally as 16-year-old Nicola Murray, a pupil at St Ciaran's High School in Ballygawley.
A nine-year-old primary school pupil who was also critically injured is the dead girl's cousin and next door neighbour.
The crash took place at Cabragh, between Ballygawley and Dungannon in Co Tyrone, just after 8am and involved a bus which was taking children to a number of schools in the area.
The accident happened as the bus was turning into a primary school with the bus ending up off the road.
The bus was carrying about eight pupils from St Ciaran's High School in Ballygawley and seven from St Mary's Primary School in Cabragh and was turning into St Mary's when the accident happened.
It is understood the bus involved is a new vehicle, fully fitted with seatbelts and has CCTV cameras.
Education Minister Caitríona Ruane said: "I have been deeply upset by news of this morning's incident and my thoughts go out to those affected by the accident."
Earlier reports said that five ambulances and a doctor attended the road collision at Cabragh this morning and that the road had been closed between Dungannon and Ballygawley roundabout and there were major traffic delays and diversions.
