Stream wins European Call Centre of the Year accolade
Stream International’s UK contact centre in Londonderry has been awarded the prestigious main award of the event ‘European Call Centre of the Year’ for the second year running.
The company were presented with the award at the recent Call Centre Expo UK event. Presented by Call Centre Focus magazine and sponsored by BT Retail the awards recognises call and contact centre professionals who demonstrate excellence in their field.
Stream’s UK and Ireland Managing Director, Kevin Houston said: "Stream’s main goal is to maintain customer service excellence, and winning this award for the second consecutive year gives our customers the tick in the box that tells them that they made the right decision to outsource their business to our company.
“Stream's success is attributable to the foresight and commitment of our US parent company, Solectron, taking its decision to locate in Derry, the support provided by Invest-NI, the local community and the dedication and commitment of our highly trained and customer focused local workforce, who have worked hard to establish our growing reputation with our clients.”
The first call centre in Northern Ireland to be accredited with the UK Government ‘Investor In People Award,’ Stream has also won additional recognition for ‘Innovative Practice In The Training & Development of Employees’ through the company’s Stream University programme.
Kieran Mannion, Senior Executive with Invest Northern Ireland said that the Awards were an illustration of the high standards within the Northern Ireland CRM Industry: “The Awards are a confirmation of the excellent work of Stream International, and an indication of the strength of Northern Ireland’s CRM industry as a whole."
Stream International employs over 10,000 people worldwide in 21 locations. The firms Londonderry site in Northern Ireland, employing 650 people, is the largest of seven European locations. It is widely recognised as one of the City’s top local employers in terms of its size and industry sector.
Each day around 18,000 customer service and technical support issues are handled by telephone and e-mail for the end user customers of eight the world’s leading IT companies.

Stream appoint General Manager for UK and Ireland
Stream International has announced that Sean Canning has been promoted to General Manager at the company’s Londonderry facility. Canning joined Stream in January 2000 as a service delivery manager, responsible for the contact centre operations of a major client account. Canning replaces Kevin Houston who has joined HCL Technologies.

gem secures €3m call centre contract
A €3 million contract between Belfast-based customer relation specialists, gem, and Tourism Ireland is set to create 35 new jobs in the city. Tourism Ireland appointed gem as its new provider of contact centre services to handle all international consumer telephone and email queries.

Derry Bids For Top Architectural Prize
A building in Londonderry that literally rose form the ashes has become the first in Northern Ireland to be shortlisted for the prestigious Stirling Prize. Culturlann Ui Chanain cost £4m and has already been awarded prizes for its architecture. It opened in September 2010 as an Irish language centre teaching traditional music, dance and language.

There are hopes today that a potential new customer will be found for a beleaguered Londonderry call centre. Just last Friday it emerged that more than 400 jobs could go at the Stream International call centre in the city within two months, if new work isn't found.
