Benefit Frauds Fined And Sentenced
Five people were convicted at Lisburn Magistrates' court this week for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.
Damien Laverty (34) of Glenbaw Park, Dunmurry claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £6,746 while failing to declare employment. He was given a four-month prison sentence suspended for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £40.
Marc Garrett (31) of Eglantine Crescent, Lisburn claimed Income Support totalling £374 while failing to declare employment.
He was given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £25.
Una Neill (59) of Hillhall Park, Lisburn claimed Income Support totalling £2,475 while failing to declare employment. She was given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £28.
Elizabeth Mallon (54) of Glenkeen, Dunmurry claimed Income Support totalling £9,164 while failing to declare employment. She was given 450 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £34.
Paul Caulfield (36) of Glenwood Court, Lisburn claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Rates Relief totalling £2,274 while failing to declare employment. He was given 300 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £43.
All are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

A total of 14 people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates' court yesterday with Joanne McBride (35) of Portallo Street, Belfast claiming Income Support totalling £4,451 while failing to declare she was working.

Michael Benson (24) of Bonds Hill, L'Derry claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £4,682 while failing to declare employment. He was given 120 hours Community Service, fined £100 and ordered to pay court costs of £43.

Two people have been convicted of benefit fraud at Newry Magistrates' Court today, for claiming benefits they were not entitled to. 31-year-old John McParland of Carrickananny Road, Belleeks claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £4,496 while failing to declare capital. He was fined £500 and ordered to pay court costs of £34.

Named And Shamed: Frauds Pay Penalty
A dozen people have been caught fiddling the benefits' system in Northern Ireland. All have been identified on the Department of Social Development's (DSD) own website - a new development - and have had their details circulated to the local media in each of the areas concerned.

Benefit Fraudsters Handed Jail Sentences
People from different areas of NI have been sentenced to terms of imprisonment and fines for defrauding the Government over benefits being claimed illegally. As part of a continuing crackdown, three people were convicted at Craigavon Magistrates' court on Monday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.
