Para Killed As Tragic Bangor Soldier Named
The NI soldier who died in an accident in Afghanistan's Helmand province has been named as 20-year-old David Dalzell.
Ranger Dalzell, was from Bangor in Co Down and serving with 1st Battalion the Royal Irish Regiment when the accident happened on Friday in Nad-e Ali, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.
Ranger Dalzell joined the the Royal Irish Regiment based at Tern Hill, Shropshire, in July 2010 after his recruit training and was on his first deployment. The MoD said details of the accident will be outlined at an inquest into the death.
He was the first of two soldiers to be killed within 24 hours of each other with the second named as Company Sergeant Major Colin Beckett.
Warrant Officer Class 2 (Company Sergeant Major) Beckett, from 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, was killed by a bomb on Saturday.
Sgt Maj Beckett, 36, died in the village of Shaheed, also in Nad-e Ali district when an improvised explosive device (IED) blew up as he was moving into position to cover his comrades.
Sgt Maj Beckett joined the Army in 1990 and was known as "Tom". He had served in Iraq, Kosovo and Northern Ireland.
Originally from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, he had been expecting his first child with his wife Rachel, later this month.

Two British Soldiers Killed Are Named
Two British soldiers killed in an explosion in Afghanistan have been named by the Ministry of Defence. Private Ben Ford, 18, and Private Damian Wright, 23, were both from the 2nd Battallion The Mercian Regiment. They were taking part in a routine reassurance patrol when the WMIK Landrover vehicle they were travelling in was caught in an explosion.
