German firm to create 50 new jobs for Waterford
Up to 50 new jobs are to be created in Waterford over the next four years following a €10 million investment by German firm, Guehring oHG Albstadt.
A world leader in coating technology for metal cutting tools, Guehring will establish a centre in Waterford, which will be responsible for coating the full range of Guehring's standard tools, about four million tools initially rising to in excess of six million at full production.
Making the announcement, Tánaiste Mary Harney, said: "The Waterford centre will be in production within a couple of months and will be one of the largest, most sophisticated and modern facilities of its type in the world and will become the Guehring Group's largest coating centre."
The high quality operation will require people with a range of skills and qualifications from operatives, to highly qualified product and process technicians, to professional engineers.
The Tánaiste said: "The technology involved is new to Ireland and, as a world leader in its industry, Guehring will bring significant benefits to Waterford and to the whole South-East Region. It will offer high quality employment opportunities and will work with the Waterford Institute of Technology on the R&D of new products as well as with some local companies on joint projects."
Employing 3,300 people throughout the world in 15 production centres and twenty-six coating centres, Guehring's products are used in a range of industries which include automotive, airline manufacture and mechanical engineering.
The firm's clients include global companies such as Boeing, Airbus, General Motors, Ford, VW, Daimler Chrysler and BMW.
