Weather again hampers search for Greene family

The search for three generations of a County Down family missing at sea has been hampered again by the weather.

Despite valiant efforts to locate them, police divers have found no trace of Michael Greene, his son and eight-year-old grandson, also called Michael since they left Kilkeel fishing harbour on February 14.

The family’s boat, the Tullaghmurray Lass has been located however. It was found 42 metres below the surface by the Ken Vickers seven miles off the coast of Kilkeel.

Divers had hoped to search wreckage of the boat on Wednesday April 3 but poor weather means the search has been suspended until at least tomorrow.

Friday March 29 was the last time according a police spokesperson, that police divers were able to examine the wreckage of the Tullaghmurray Lass. It is thought the search is concentrating on finding the remains of the bodies of the Greene family.

On Tuesday March 26, the police diving team used sophisticated underwater video surveillance equipment to film the wreckage.

The Marine Accident Investigation branch is currently leading the investigation into what happened to the Tullaghmurray Lass.
