Committee to visit Moyle District Council and Interconnector

The Northern Ireland Assembly’s Committee for Enterprise, Trade and Investment will visit the Moyle Interconnector at Islandmagee and meet with councillors from Moyle District Council at the Giant’s Causeway on Wednesday April 10.

Representatives from Northern Ireland Electricity recently gave evidence to the Committee’s Energy Inquiry and extended an invitation to visit a number of their facilities. The Committee is interested in visiting the Moyle Interconnector - which links Northern Ireland to Scotland - to see how the facility works.

Committee Chairperson Pat Doherty MP MLA said: “The Moyle Interconnector plays an important role in opening the electricity market and in meeting the electricity needs of the island of Ireland. We have heard much about its development during our inquiry and are delighted to be able to see it in operation.”

The Committee will be given a tour of the Northern Ireland Electricity facility in the morning and in the afternoon meet with councillors from Moyle District Council at the Giant’s Causeway Visitor’s Centre site to discuss recent decisions relating to development of the site and the potential for the area.

The Committee will also be meeting with representatives from Seaport Investments Limited and The National Trust on April 17 to hear their views on the development of the Giant’s Causeway Visitor’s Centre site.
