Barracks Alert Ends

A major Army base - which also houses the local HQ for intelligence staff at MI5 - was on full alert earlier this morning.

A suspicious object was discovered at Palace Barracks near Holywood, Co Down this morning and a security alert was declared.

However, after Army technical officers attended the scene and the Old Holywood Road behind the massive barracks complex was closed-off between Knocknagoney Road and Jackson Road - the alert was lifted before 1pm.
