North-South Ministers Target Infrastructure

A delegation of Irish ministers met in Dublin this week to discuss further cross-border cooperation on infrastructural projects.

Stormont Roads Minister Conor Murphy, along with NI Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster, held talks with the Republic's counterpart Tánaiste Mary Coughlan at Dublin Castle on Wednesday.

The meeting followed Monday's North-South Ministerial Council gathering in the capital.

This morning ministers focused on Inter Trade Ireland, and the work which the body has undertaken in developing economic co-operation on an island-wide basis.

Speaking after the meeting, Minister Murphy said: "The continuing progressive work of bodies such as Inter Trade Ireland is critical as we strive to maximise economic benefit on an island-wide basis and drive the island economy, particularly in the current economic downturn.

"This week has and will continue to be a busy one for all-Ireland co-operation.

"More and more people are realising the necessity of all-Ireland cooperation and development and the potential it has for citizens during the current economic downturn."

Mr Murphy said another sectoral meeting will take place in Gaoth Dobhar tomorrow.
