Britvic Jobs Lost In Donegal

Much needed jobs are to be axed in Co Donegal.

It has emerged that 22 workers are to lose their jobs in Ballyshannon as the town's Britvic facility closes down.

The company has previously blamed the decision on the economic downturn.

The firm became C&C/Britvic 12 years ago having originally been Mulligans Wines and Spirits.

It was a successful drinks distribution family business founded by John Mulligan in 1959.

Britvic Ireland confirmed in January of this year it was shedding 145 jobs nationwide as part of a cost-cutting plan which would also see the closure of their depots in Cork and Waterford as well as in Ballyshannon.

The employees have been involved in retraining in recent months following talks in conjunction with the Donegal branch of SIPTU.

The area has already suffered severely in the recession, as 75 jobs from mechanical services contractors Likelys were lost in May.
