Former SDLP leaders honoured in Dublin

A special tribute will be made in honour of the former SDLP leader John Hume and former deputy first minister Seamus Mallon this Friday in Dublin.

The event, which will take place in the Burlington Hotel in Dublin on Friday April 19, will be attended by over 700 guests and will be entertained by Irish singer Paul Brady.

Speaking ahead of the tribute SDLP Party chairman Alex Attwood said: “The contributions both men have made in shaping the political landscape of this island have been phenomenal.

“John Hume - a visionary, politician, statesman and architect of the peace process has been described as a true Irish hero who served his people to the limits. Likewise Seamus Mallon one of the most respected and admired politicians on this island has been described as the tough talking nationalist who turned key trust builder in the all party negotiations which led to the Good Friday Agreement.

“Both men have played an enormous role in moving politics forward on this island and in providing leadership for the people of the SDLP, the people of this island and people in may parts of the world. We look forward to marking and celebrating the contribution they have made.”
