Guilty Plea On Pensioner's Violent Killing

The man responsible for a pensioner's violent death has been jailed.

Tilly Campbell, 77, was found at her home at Barnagh Park in the seaside town of Donaghadee, in October 2006.

Firefighters called to the scene following reports of a fire discovered the victim's body at the scene.

Robert George Harvey, 38, was arrested later that day but initially denied murdering his neighbour.

At the time of the killing, police investigating the pensioner's murder revealed she had suffered an extremely violent death.

Harvey was due to stand trial earlier this year at Downpatrick Crown Court, however, he dismissed his legal team at the last minute and the trial was re-listed for Belfast Crown Court.

Minutes before the trial was due to start on Monday, Harvey then asked to be re-arraigned on the murder charge and pleaded guilty.

Mr Justice Hart told Harvey the offence required that he be sentenced to life imprisonment.

The judge said he would set the "appropriate minimum term" in September when he hears details of the case.
