Prosecution Follows Building Site Death
The death of a construction worker in Belfast last year has led to the contractor being charged with several offences.
As reported in 4ni.co.uk at the time, the death of the 52-year-old victim was the second such Irish construction site death in a single day.
The other man who died was fatally injured after he got trapped under the wheel of a vehicle while working on a building site at Dublin Airport.
Another kind of vehicle - a forklift truck - was involved in the Belfast incident which occurred at the former Ormeau Bakery site on the Ormeau Road.
Northern Ireland's Health and Safety Executive undertook an investigation after the incident.
According to UTV today, the construction firm is now being prosecuted over the death of one of its workmen at the major apartment block development.
Graham Construction faces four charges connected to the death of south Belfast man, Gerard Morgan.
The Dromore-based company has now been accused of failing to provide a safe work environment, and if convicted, the company could face an unlimited fine.
UTV has reported that a preliminary enquiry was due to be held at Belfast Magistrates Court today to decide whether to send the case to the Crown Court, but following an application, that was adjourned until next month.

Heavy Fine Follows Obel Tower Death
A Belfast-based construction company has been heavily fined after pleading guilty to deadly breaches of health and safety legislation. In a case brought against Fernwave Limited by the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) the business was fined £30,000 plus £1,700 costs.

Co Antrim firm fined following construction site death
A Co Antrim building firm have been prosecuted following the death of a construction worker at a site in Coleraine in 2001. J. Kennedy and Co (Contractors) Ltd were fined £25,000 following the incident in which during a lifting operation a bale of steel reinforcing mesh fell on top of two workers at a building site in Coleraine.

Double death tragedy in Halloween shooting
A 47-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman have died in a shooting incident in east Belfast in the early hours of Sunday morning. A 15-year-old girl, the daughter of the woman killed in the shooting, has undergone emergency surgery for two gunshot wounds. Her condition is described as "comfortable".

The Health and Safety Executive of Northern Ireland (NSENI) is to carry out an intensive inspection blitz of construction sites across Northern Ireland next week.
