Woman Freed After More Coleraine Arrests

Police have released a women being questioned in connection with the murder of Coleraine father-of-four Kevin McDaid, and the attempted murder of critically injured Damian Fleming.

A 20-year-old man and the 42-year-old woman were arrested this morning. However, the woman was later released pending a report to the PPS, while the man is still be held by officers.

Forty-nine-year-old Mr McDaid (who is pictured here) was beaten to death just yards from his home last month.

Mr Fleming sustained serious injuries in the attack, which detectives said had a sectarian motive.

Trouble flared on the predominantly nationalist Somerset area after a row over republican flags.

It is believed dozens of loyalists entered the estate following a contentious football match.

So far, nine men have been charged in connection with the murder of Catholic Mr McDaid and the attempted murder of Mr Fleming.

The accused, aged between 18 and 50, have all been remanded in custody.
