Masked Man Uses Butchers Knife To Rob Local Newsagent

A man armed with a butchers knife has robbed a newsagents on the Newtownards Road in east Belfast.

At around 8pm last night a masked man entered a shop near Lendrick Street and pressed a knife against a shop assistants throat.

The robber escaped with money and cigarettes.

He is described as being in his early 20s, and was wearing a hooded top with a white mask.

No-one is believed to have been injured in the incident.

Police Justify Using Tasers In Five Incidents
The Police Ombudsman, Dr Michael Maguire, has found that police were justified in using Tasers during five incidents involving people armed with knives. Four involved people who were threatening to harm or kill themselves, the other involved a person who was using a knife to threaten his mother and sister.

Woman Arrested After Fatal Omagh Stabbing
A 36-year-old woman has been arrested following a fatal stabbing in Omagh this morning. The incident happened at a house in the Hospital Road area of the town. It is believed the 37-year-old victim, who had been stabbed, died from his injuries. Police have said the attack took place shortly after 3am.

Second knife amnesty gets underway
The PSNI has today welcomed the government's announcement to run a second knife amnesty across Northern Ireland and the change in legislation to raise the age for purchasing a knife from 16 to 18-years-old.
