New Parades Boss Appointed
Rena Shepherd will replace Rodger Poole as chair of the Parades Commission, it has been announced.
Making the announcement, Secretary of State Shaun Woodward said Ms Shepherd would take-up the appointment next month.
The former Women's Coalition member became Northern Ireland's first Jewish parades commission last year.
Mr Woodward said Ms Shepherd would provide "strong leadership" to the challenging role.
"Northern Ireland has enjoyed peaceful parading seasons in recent years and the Parades Commission has played an important role in helping to deliver that," he said.
"Rena's appointment brings stability for the months ahead and the Parades Commission remains the final arbiter in parading matters."
Formed in 1997, the commission decides on the sanctioning of contentious marches.
Next week, the commission will meet to rule on the applications of 10 proposed loyalist parades.
