Journalist Breen Back In Court
An Irish journalist continued her fight to protect Real IRA sources at Belfast's High Court today.
Sunday Tribune northern editor Suzanne Breen has defied police requests to hand over journalist material relating to dissident republicans.
Today a court heard she faces "grave danger" if she is forced to elaborate on confidential sources.
Ms Breen was contacted by the Real IRA when it claimed responsibility for the murders of two soldiers at an Antrim army barracks in March.
She also interviewed a member of the paramilitary organisation.
The PSNI said Ms Breen's notes should be disclosed to help its investigation.
She has so far refused to surrender any information to officers, claiming her life would be under threat if she complied.
Last month a judge said he was "minded" to grant a police order which would force the journalist to hand over source material.
He gave Ms Breen's legal team until today to formulate a challenge to the possible ruling.
Her lawyers have used article two of the European Convention of Humans Rights, the right to life, and article 10, freedom of expression, as a defence.
Ms Breen has received momentous support from the National Union of Journalist (NUJ), as well a hundreds of high profile writers.
Over 5,000 people have signed an NUJ petition backing the reporter.
Police investigators have said they would use all possible legal means "to access information which may assist their inquiries".
Sappers Mark Quinsey, 23, from Birmingham, and Patrick Azimkar, 21, from London, were gunned down as they collected pizzas outside the Massereene barracks on 7 March.
Several civilians were also seriously injured in the attack.
