Suspects Released Over SF Murder

Police have released two men being questioned over the murder of a Sinn Fein councillor 18 years ago.

Eddie Fullerton was shot dead by loyalist paramilitary group, the UDA, at his Donegal home in May 1991.

Last night a 41-year-old man, arrested in Derry, and a 45-year-old man, who voluntarily presented himself to officers in Antrim, were released without charge

Mr Fullerton's killers smashed their way into his Buncrana house with a sledgehammer

The republican councillor was murdered in front of his wife.

Speculation has mounted over possible RUC collusion in the killing after a police file containing a photograph of Mr Fullerton, and other personal details, were found in the possession of the UDA's Derry wing.

Yesterday's arrests were made at the request of the Gardai and the PSNI's Historical Enquiries Team, which is re-examining the investigation into the killing.
