Smithfield Regeneration Scheme's £150k Boost
An initiative aimed at regenerating the Smithfield and Library areas of Belfast city centre is to be extended, it has been announced.
NI Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie said 'reStore'- targeted at boosting business performance in the rundown areas - would receive an additional £150,000 to increase the attractiveness of the surrounding environment.
Ms Ritchie said: "I am pleased to offer immediate support of £150,000 under the pilot initiative to traders currently operating in the Smithfield and Library Quarter areas in the Northside.
"The North West City Centre Regeneration Committee, a body which represents the interests of local businesses, has provided their time and know-how to develop an action plan under the banner 'The Historic Smithfield and Library Quarter – the revival initiative'.
"The funding provided by my department will support the development of a unique brand for the area, enhancements to shop fronts, streetscape improvements and a series of promotional events to entice more visitors and shoppers into the area," said the Minister.

Consultation Opens On Lisburn Regeneration Plans
A public consultation period on the revised plans for Lisburn City Centre has launched. Residents, visitors, local businesses and other interested parties are being urged to submit their opinions on the scheme which proposes work to key areas such as Laganbank Quarter, Smithfield Square and Jordan's Mill.

Government plans unveiled for £2 million state of the art library in Antrim
The government has today unveiled plans to build a £2 million state of the art library for the town of Antrim. Making the announcement earlier today, Libraries Minister, David Hanson said: “Since the beginning of 2005 Antrim Library has been located in temporary premises in a retail unit in the town centre.

Five New Coronavirus Cases Confirmed
Five new cases of coronavirus have been detected in Northern Ireland. The Public Health Agency confirmed the further spread of the flu-like virus on Sunday, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 12. The search is on to trace people who have been in contact with the latest cases.
