Northern Bank poised to axe 50 jobs
Fifty Northern Bank employees are facing redundancy later this year, due to its parent company's plans to restructure its global operations.
The National Australia Bank's UK Wealth Management Europe (WME) division has decided to outsource the telesales and administration of its Belfast-based home and motor insurance business.
The 50 staff will not be affected by the forthcoming changes until September, but Northern Bank is hoping to minimise the redundancies through redeployment, either in the new restructured business or at other businesses within the National Group.
Commenting on the changes, Paul Rogan, WME chief executive officer said: "Part of this commitment is about giving our people as much information about our plans as soon as possible, as well as offering assistance, such as career counselling.
"This is part of a re-engineering programme for the whole of our European wealth management operations, which is intended to allow the business to focus on more value-added activities, such as upgrading our capabilities and our offering to our customers."
Mr Rogan also added that the division is planning to double its customer base over the next five years.
