Bombardier Executives Underline Commitment To NI

A high flying Bombardier management team from the company's HQ in Montreal has this week met with a party of top local politicians.

Pictured here is Guy Hachey, President and Chief Operating Officer, Bombardier Aerospace who led his delegation to meet the Stormont First Minister Peter Robinson, Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness and Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster.

The group toured the company's facility at Airport Road West where they saw work under way on the CSeries research and development programme.

The mini summit was to discuss the impact of the current global economic crisis on the aerospace industry and its effect on Bombardier's businesses, including the facilities in Belfast.

The Bombardier team reaffirmed its strong commitment to Northern Ireland and its continued investment in new programmes such as the CSeries commercial aircraft.

Bombardier management used the meeting to stress they are investing more than £500 million in Northern Ireland - in new facilities, plant and machinery - and in the engineering research and development of the advanced composite wings for CSeries.

Around 270 engineers and support staff are currently engaged in R&D work related to CSeries with production expected to get underway once the development work is completed.

It is expected that 800 jobs will be generated during the peak production period.
