Police chief announces three police stations to close
Acting Northern Ireland chief constable Colin Cramphorn has announced that only three police stations from an original list of around 20 are to be closed.
He told the Policing Board on Thursday May 2, that stations on the Springfield Road in Belfast and Castlehill station in Dungannon were earmarked for closure, along with another base at Corry Square, Newry, County Down.
Meanwhile, County Fermanagh born Maria Willis has been appointed as Chief Constable of one the largest police forces in the UK.
Currently Deputy Chief Constable of Sussex, Mrs Willis will take over from Sir John Evans as head of the Devon and Cornwall force when he retires later this year.
Mrs Willis is married and has been a serving police officer for 26 years.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

NI's Most Fortified Police Stations Should Close
The most fortified police stations in Northern Ireland should close, a review into policing in South Armagh has recommended. PSNI Chief Constable Simon Byrne will meet today today, Tuesday 31 August, with representatives of the local community in South Armagh to discuss the findings of a comprehensive report into policing in the local area.

'Marginal' Rise In Latest Crime Statistics
A total number of 98,301 crimes were recorded in 2017/18, according to the latest annual statistics published by the Police Service of Northern Ireland. The new figures represent a marginal rise of 0.3% crimes on the previous year 98,041 but remain the second lowest total recorded since 1998/99.

Increased Police Presence In NI Following Manchester Attack
There will be an increased police presence in Northern Ireland following the terror attack in Manchester, PSNI Chief Constable George Hamilton has confirmed. However, he said that the military deployment announced by Prime Minister Theresa May as part of Operation Temperer "will not apply" in NI.

Baggott Takes PSNI Reins
Northern Ireland's new police chief Matt Baggott today said he does not "diminish" the threat posed by dissident republicans, writes Paul Reilly. Mr Baggott, speaking to assembled press at NI Policing Board headquarters in Belfast, he conceded the threat is "real", but was resolute that the PSNI has the support of the majority of the community.
