Couple 'Shocked' By Border Post Office Robbery

A rural post office's proximity to the Irish border is believed to be a factor in an armed robbery carried out this week.

Police are investigating the incident which led to a Co Tyrone couple being left "badly shocked and distressed" after armed robbers struck .

At around 10pm on Tuesday night at Clady on the Tyrone-Donegal border, two men entered the house next to the post office and ordered the occupants to lie on the floor while their children were asleep upstairs.

The man, Mark McAnenny, was then forced to go with one of the robbers to the post office and take a sum of money from the safe.

His wife, Melissa was forced to remain on the floor of the house guarded by the second robber.

Melissa and her husband have now said they are living in fear and the family were now uncertain about their future in the village.

"I just don't feel safe in the house now and because we live by the Post Office we're targets," she told BBC Radio Ulster this morning.

She also said Clady's proximity to the border makes it a vulnerable target and said they believed the robbers knew there would be extra cash to hand, due to the winter fuel payouts being made this week.

The couple were not hurt, but police said they were "visibly distressed" by their ordeal.
