Minister to discuss fish factory closure
SDLP Agricultural spokesperson and MLA for South Down, PJ Bradley, is set to meet Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Sir Reg Empey on Tuesday May 7 to discuss the closure of a County Down fish factory.
As one of Northern Ireland's biggest scampi processors, Young's Blue Crest fish factory in Kilkeel are to axe around 150 jobs as the company is planning to re-locate its operation to Scotland.
A spokesman for the company, Michael Mitchell, said a shortage of prawns had contributed to their decision to move the firm's operation away from Northern Ireland.
PJ Bradley, said he was dismayed with the decision. He added: "I am deeply concerned about those people who may now lose their livelihoods and the knock on effect this will have for the local community in Kilkeel."
Ulster Unionist Party Agricultural Minister George Savage also called for swift action to be taken to protect the long-term future of Ulster's prawn fishermen.
He said his party was calling on the Minister to "explore ways of support for the industry as well as the employees hit by the company's decision".

An innovative campaign, the 'Unite Against Hate' sporting weekend has been launched. Stormont First Minister Peter Robinson and his Junior Minister Gerry Kelly (pictured) joined forces to support the campaign which highlights all forms of hate crime and challenges people here to unite to stop it.

Bombardier Job Losses 'Deeply Disappointing'
The news that Bombardier is to reduce its workforce in Northern Ireland have been described as "deeply disappointing" and "extremely regrettable", by Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Jonathan Bell and Minister for Employment and Learning, Dr Stephen Farry.
