Lurgan Couple Escape Unhurt As Digger Rams House
There was drama on the roads in central Belfast last night as police car was rammed while in Co Armagh, a couple in their 50s were left shaken after a JCB digger was driven through the front of their house.
The Lurgan incident saw the digger (similar, pictured) ending up in the living room of the property in the Braemar Avenue area, before being set on fire.
The 55-year-old man and 51-year-old woman who were in the house at the time were badly shocked, but otherwise unhurt.
Police, who have issued an appeal for information, said they were treating the incident as criminal damage.
Lurgan has seen numerous incidents of street trouble over the past weeks, as dissident republican supporters rioted after local arrests were made.
However, it is understood the couple's son owns the house concerned and the pair involved don't usually stay there, so the police said a motive for the attack has yet to be established.
Meanwhile, three people, including one police officer, have been injured when a police car was rammed in Belfast.
A police spokesperson said officers were involved in an operation in Nelson Street when the incident took place at just before midnight on Wednesday.
One man was arrested for dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit while another man travelling in the car was arrested for theft-type offences.
The three people did not require hospital treatment.
