Army Controlled Explosion As Poleglass Alert Ends
A security alert in the Poleglass estate on the outskirts of west Belfast has been declared a hoax.
The Army carried out two controlled explosions after a number of suspicious objects were discovered taped to lampposts.
Those responsible for the latest in a series of bomb alerts have been roundly condemned by a Sinn Fein politician, as the police have confirmed that a controlled explosion has been carried out.
Yesterday, a police spokesperson said the immediate area around Ardkeen Avenue and Ardkeen Drive had been cordoned off.
In response, Sinn Fein West Belfast MLA Jennifer McCann condemned those responsible for numerous bomb alerts in the Poleglass area.
"I want to condemn these actions completely; they have no place within our community or within our society," she said.
Noting that Sinn Fein councillors and representatives were 'on the ground' with the people who are affected by these thoughtless actions she said that the local community centre, the Sally Gardens Centre, has been opened for people who have had to leave their homes.
She said yesterday: "I have been in contact with the local PSNI commander who assures me that they are working to clear the area as soon as possible.
"Those responsible for these alerts offer nothing only disruption and devastation to the people," she concluded.
