Minister presents province's Nurse of the Year Award
Two nurses who were commended for their work on a recent major nursing project by Assembly Health Minister have shared Northern Ireland's Nurse of the Year Award 2002.
Presented by Health Minister Bairbre de Brún at a ceremony in the Culloden Hotel on Thursday evening, the top nursing award was shared by Dawn Connolly from Craigavon Area Hospital Trust and Lilian Bradley from Ulster Community & Hospitals Trusts.
Dawn and Lilian received the award in recognition of their involvement in a project called “Wound Care in Action.”
Speaking at the award ceremony, Ms de Brún said: “What I have witnessed this evening has been illuminating and inspirational and gives me great confidence that we have a nursing profession we can be truly proud of.”
Addressing all the “Nurse of the Year” finalists, the Minister added: “The range of entries demonstrates the diverse role of the profession and certainly sends a clear message that nursing is not standing still. You are all ‘Achievers’ and can be proud of your courage in pursuing self development and making a difference.”

£2.1m Invested In Health Service Education And Training
Funding of £2.1 million is to be invested in education and training to boost the health service workforce, Health Minister Robin Swann has announced. The package includes 1,335 nursing and midwifery university places for 2022/23, as well as additional medical specialty and Allied Health Profession (AHP) training posts.

Overseas nurses recruited to fill NI shortfall
The Royal College of Nursing has said that the shortage of nurses in Northern Ireland hospitals has forced health officials to try to recruit staff from abroad. Latest figures from the College revealed that one in every 16 nurses in the province is from outside the British Isles.

Politicians Help 'Kick Hate Into Touch'
An innovative campaign, the 'Unite Against Hate' sporting weekend has been launched. Stormont First Minister Peter Robinson and his Junior Minister Gerry Kelly (pictured) joined forces to support the campaign which highlights all forms of hate crime and challenges people here to unite to stop it.
