Elan To Cut Jobs

Pharmaceutical firm Elan has said it is cutting 115 jobs across its Irish Republic-based operations.

The shock job losses are part of a ongoing strategic review process, according to the company as another 115 jobs will go in the US.

Elan says it has an overall global workforce of 1,700.

Offshore Company Axes Jobs
Around 150 jobs in Aberdeen and Dundee have been axed after an offshore services company ceased trading. Oceanteam Power and Umbilical has been forced to close when the firm's holding company withdrew its financial support. Staff are based in Aberdeen, at workshops in Dundee and offshore.

Siemens is to axe 4,500 jobs worldwide. Unite national officer, Linda McCulloch, said: "We need clarity from the Siemens management how this announcement will impact on the nearly 14,000 people that the company employs in the UK.
