Prison Officer Death Mystery

The man who died in suspicious circumstances in Co Londonderry at the weekend has been revealed to have been a long-serving NI prison officer.

The Magherafelt victim William Guy, 47, had lived with his elderly parents on Westland Road in the town after his divorce.

The dead man's family have today appealed for anyone with information about the death of to come forward.

A PSNI spokesman said an initial post mortem was carried out yesterday and a further examination will be carried out today (Tuesday).

He also said one 22-year-old man arrested on Sunday remains in custody and police have been given a further 36 hours to question him.

Mr Guy, known as 'Foxy' to friends, worked as a warden at Magilligan Prison (pictured) for more than 20 years and died less than a mile from his Westland Road home.

It is understood his fiancee found him dead at the bottom of stairs leading to a flat at Rainey Street in the town before 3.30am on Sunday.

The pair had got engaged only one month ago.

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has launched an investigation after a man died in a farm accident in Co Tyrone. Emergency services were called to the farm in the Coolaghy Road area of Ardstraw on Sunday, 02 September. His death is not being treated as suspicious and a post-mortem is to be carried out.

Police Appeal For Witnesses To Fatal Road Crash
The PSNI have appealed for witnesses to a fatal road crash involving a motorcycle and a car. The accident happened on the Monagh Road in Turf Lodge on Saturday. A 20-year-old man died in the collision. Police say that the death is the 57th fatality on NI roads so far this year. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact police.

Woman Arrested After Sudden Death Of Man In L'Derry
A woman has been arrested following the sudden death of a man in Magherafelt. A 46-year-old man died in L'Derry in the early hours of Tuesday, 05 December. Police are treating the death as suspicious. A 32-year-old woman has been arrested and is assisting police with their enquiries.
