CITB encourages employers to consider apprentices
A new Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) campaign aimed at encouraging UK employers to take on young people to train as apprentices highlights the need to act fast to secure the best employees.
A mailshot in the form of a dummy chocolate box has been sent out to employers who, when opening it, find that there are none left. Printed on top of the box is "Get the Best". An accompanying leaflet then adds, "Before They All Go", acting as a graphic warning that if employers don't act quickly when recruiting young people they could miss out all together.
The campaign is part of CITB's work to encourage employers to sign up to taking on young people and training them as modern apprentices. CITB currently has over 18,000 young people who have applied for modern apprenticeships so far this year and, if the young person succeeds with their application, they will need to be found an apprenticeship by CITB.
CITB's Business Area Manager Paul Sykes said: "Our message to employers is that they should act quickly at this time of year, as the talented young applicants who have applied so far this year may not hang around for long due to the intense competition in the jobs market.
"Over the next five years the industry needs 380,000 recruits to keep up with demand. By taking on a young person through CITB, employers will be helping the industry towards achieving a fully qualified workforce."

Bank of England holds UK interest rate at 4%
The Bank of England has held the main UK interest rate at 4% for the twelfth consecutive month. This is despite a larger than anticipated cut by the US Federal Reserve. Leading economists were split on whether or not interest rates would or should be dropped.

Sean Campbell appointed as new CITB chairman
Sean Campbell has recently been appointed as the chairman of the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) in Northern Ireland. Currently the Company Secretary and Managing Director of H&P Campbell, Newry - a building and civil engineering contractor – Mr Campbell has been a member of CITB since 1993.
