Ulster Hall Ready To Rock
The historic Ulster Hall, which first opened its doors in 1859 and was designed by William J Barre, the man whose architectural portfolio also includes Belfast's landmark Albert Clock is ready to rock again.
A refit and redecoration has been carried out on the Bedford Street building over the past two years with final touches added this week.
Long before the days of The Odyssey and The Waterfront Hall, Belfast's original 'star' concert venue, The Ulster Hall, was hosting the likes of Led Zeppelin and their first ever rendition of the classic 'Stairway to Heaven'.
Now it is set to reopen following the 24-month £7.4m refurbishment.
Besides new seating on the ground floor and the original metal balustrade on the balconies being restored, the windows, closed since the 1980s, will also be reopened and further improvements will include new stage lighting, upgraded heating and toilet facilities and a major upgrading of the artists' dressing rooms.
The Ulster Hall will stage grand gala concert re-opening on March 6.
This is by way of welcoming the Ulster Orchestra's residency and providing an opportunity to experience the hall at its very best.
A specially commissioned work by local composer Brian Irvine celebrates the venue's past, with reference to past performers and marks its position as a leading performance space.
To again mark the occasion, BBC NI's 'Across The Line' - along with Belfast City Council - is staging a second concert called 'Do You Remember The First Time?' just to help get the new look venue off to a flying start.
This second Ulster Hall relaunch event will mark the reopening with present day acts taking their own trip down memory lane, as they play songs from groups they themselves have seen play at the top Belfast venue, as well as their own material.
The concert takes place on Monday 9 March with much more to follow such as Stiff Little Fingers on 16 March and Jeff Beck in June, and a whole range of talent in between.
