Re-arrested Lithuanian pair to be deported

Two men released without charge after being quizzed by police over a double murder in Northern Ireland have been re-arrested for suspected immigration offences.

The two men, believed to be from Lithuania, were questioned for four days over the murder of two men found by the roadside beside Warrenpoint Golf Course last Wednesday but were released without charge around 8pm on Monday.

However the men were then re-arrested late on Monday by officials over alleged immigration offences.

A huge murder inquiry, involving the Irish Police and Interpol was launched after a man walking his dog found the two bodies near a golf course last Wednesday.

Both victims had met violent and brutal deaths, suffering multiple stab wounds and head injuries.

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland travelled to London on Monday to liaise with the Lithuanian Embassy with a view to confirming the identity of both murder victims.

One of the victims has been positively identified as Lithuanian, and it is thought that the second man was also from the Baltic state.
