Chairperson Sought To Aid Agri-Skills Development

The organisation that looks after skills achievement in the local agricultural sector is looking for a new senior figure.

Lantra, the Sector Skills Council for environmental and land-based industries is now recruiting a new Chair for its Northern Ireland council.

The organisation is poised to increase employer influence with the strengthening of national councils in Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales that will ensure that the organisation remains fully employer-led.

The new appointment will therefore help the council take increased responsibility for devising, approving and monitoring its operational plans which contribute to the delivery of overall UK objectives.

Gordon McGlone, Lantra's UK Chair - who is also Chief Executive of Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for employers who are passionate about skills.

"It is a chance to really influence policy, lobby for change and work to secure funding and provision to meet industry needs."

He noted that Lantra recognises that the majority of education, skills and rural policy decisions are made at the individual country level. He said it is therefore critical that Lantra has a strong employer body at this level that can steer policy decisions and seek to influence decisions on behalf of this sector.
