Art In Derry Air
Northern Ireland Arts Minister Gregory Campbell (pictured) has announced the winner of the Foyle Public Art Project. The North West Cultural Challenge Fund awarded £800,000 to the Foyle Public Art Project last year to host a competition to find an artist to develop an iconic piece of contemporary public artwork at Ebrington to mark the regeneration of the city: "The winning design, 'Mute Meadow', by Vong Phaophanit and Claire Oboussier is truly inspirational. Architecture and public art makes it unique and helps it to stand out from other international cities and this piece of art work will certainly do that as it will be visible from the old walled city across the river and in turn, the site of the work itself offers prime views over the river to the walled city opposite," he said, noting that public art is playing an increasingly important role in urban regeneration.

Film Proves Hungry For Awards
A film about the death of IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands has dominated the Irish Film and Television Awards. Hunger took six awards at the ceremony in Dublin including best film, and best film actor for Michael Fassbender's portrayal of Bobby Sands. Sands, 27, died at the Maze prison in Northern Ireland in 1981. Fassbender went on a medically supervised diet to portray Sands, who refused food for 66 days in a bid to be recognised as a political prisoner. At Saturday night's awards ceremony, best supporting film actor was won by Liam Cunningham for his part in Hunger.
£5m Water Investment For Moyle Area
Over £5m is to be invested in the Moyle area to improve water and wastewater services, NI Water has confirmed. The investment, announced at Moyle District Council meeting last month, relates to a number of schemes that are already underway or planned to commence within this financial year. The work includes Watermain Rehabilitation in Loughguile and Portballintrae, sewerage improvements in Ballycastle and the refurbishment of Parkmore Reservoir. Chris Mellor, NI Water's Chairman and Chief Executive said: "This level of investment in Moyle is part of our commitment to bring water and wastewater services in Northern Ireland up to the highest possible standard, both in terms of quality and cost. Our focus is very much on safeguarding public health and the environment and enhancing customer services."
