Boston Scientific Close Letterkenny Plant
A large pharmaceutical company has announced plans to transfer manufacturing from its Letterkenny base to its Galway site.
The move by Boston Scientific follows a review of the medical device firm's operations in Ireland.
The Co Donegal plant employs 120 people and all are being given the option to move to Galway before the Letterkenny facility closes in 2010.
Boston Scientific, which employs 4,500 people at four facilities across the country, says it remains strongly committed to Ireland and its Irish operations.
The American based company has announced in its latest financial report of net of up to €2 billion per quarter, and although it has experienced a slight drop in its share price, the company is still experiencing growth in key areas.
Allaying fears that job losses would result, President and Chief Executive Officer of the company Jim Tobin said: "During the quarter, we continued to gain share in our cardiac rhythm management and drug-eluting stent businesses, driven by the approval and successful launch of important new products."
