Derry Fall Fatality Named

A man who fell to his death from a Londonderry apartment block has been named as Christopher 'Cookie' Wade.

Mr Wade fell from a window at the five-storey Strand Road complex at around 8pm on Tuesday.

It is believed the 47-year-old was visiting a friend at the time.

The results of a post mortem examination are not yet available for release by police, but Mr Wade's death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokeswoman for the PSNI said: "Police are investigating the sudden death of a man at Rock Mills area on Tuesday night."

Local councillor Helen Quigley described the man's death as a tragedy.

"We don't know what the circumstances were at this stage, but it is tragic that someone has lost their life," she said.

"Everyone's thoughts and prayers are with this man’s family at this time and I would like to offer my sympathy to them."

The Rock Mills complex - where the incident happened - is in part run privately, and usually houses students.

Housing association landlord SHAC confirmed Mr Wade was not a tenant at Rock Mills, and passed on it deepest sympathies to his family.
