Road Tragedies Probed
The New Year road toll rose yesterday with a man being killed in a collision between a car and a flat-bed lorry in Co Antrim. The tragedy happened on the main road from Larne to Belfast, at Ballynure at about 3pm and also left a woman in a serious condition in hospital.
The road forms part of the main A8 Belfast to Larne route and carries a high volume of traffic.
It remained closed until shortly before 10pm and police at Newtownabbey want to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision.
Both the dead man and the woman taken to hospital were travelling in the same car.
The deceased was the third person to die on Northern Ireland's roads since the beginning of the year.
Meanwhile, gardaí at Belturbet, Co Cavan are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred at 8.15am on Wednesday.
The two vehicle collision occurred at Kilduff, Belturbet involving a car and a van.
The 35-year-old female driver and only occupant of the car was taken to Cavan General Hospital where she died last night as a result of her injuries.
The male driver and two male passengers of the van were taken to Cavan General Hospital with minor injuries.

Serious Road Accident In L'Derry
Police are appealing for witnesses of a serious road accident in Maghera, Co L'Derry, on Sunday night. A man in his 20s is in a critical condition in hospital following the two car collision on the Coleraine Road. It is understood a number of people were injured in the collision but none of them seriously.

Woman Killed In Co Armagh Road Collision
A woman in her 30s has been killed in a road crash in Portadown, Co Armagh. The woman was hit by a car as she was walking on the side of the Moy Road at around 9.45pm on Tuesday. The road was closed for a short time but it has been reopened. Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
