PSNI Chief Shortlisted For Met Job
The two candidates shortlisted for the post of Commissioner of the Metropolitan police have been announced as Sir Hugh Orde and Sir Paul Stephenson.
Orde, 50, is the Chief Constable of the Police Service Northern Ireland, while Stephenson is Acting Commissioner of the London Met.
The two have been shortlisted from a possible four candidates, for the £253,000-a-year role.
They were selected by a 10-member, all-party panel of the Metropolitan Police Authority after interviews with all four candidates.
Sir Paul Scott-Lee, Chief Constable of West Midlands Police, and Bernard Hogan-Howe, Chief Constable of Merseyside Police, were the other two ruled out for the job.
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith and Mayor of London Boris Johnson will interview the two candidates jointly on Monday.
It is understood the successful candidate will be announced at the end of January.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

The Policing Board's selection panel has drawn up a list of three candidates for the top job in the Police Service of Northern Ireland. The three candidates for the post of Chief Constable are Assistant Chief Constables Albiston and McQuillan of the PSNI, and Deputy Assistant Commissioner Orde, Metropolitan Police.
