Murder hunt launched after Warrenpoint death
Police have launched a murder investigation after a man died following an incident in Warrenpoint, County Down.
The body of 35-year-old Aiden Savage, who lived in the seaside town, was found on a street in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The police said his death followed an incident in a bar in Warrenpoint and that detectives were following a definite line of enquiry.
A post mortem examination is expected to be carried out later on Tuesday to establish how exactly Mr Savage died.
SDLP assembly member for South Down PJ Bradley said Mr Savage’s death was both “shocking and disturbing”.
“Yet another family in the South Down area has been plunged into grief. It is a terrible tragedy that will affect many in the area. I have no doubt the people of Warrenpoint would wish to express their sadness and sympathy to Michael and Gabrielle and the other members of the Savage family. This senseless murder has deprived them of a loving son and brother.”
