Sainsbury's Signs Up With Clandeboye
A Co Down dairy farm has signed up with one of the UK's biggest retailers.
Bryan Boggs, Business Manager, Clandeboye Estate Yoghurt, Anna Patterson, Michael McCambley, Sainsbury's Northern Ireland Commercial Buyer and 'Marble', a four legged member of the Clandeboye team are seen here celebrating the success for Clandeboye Estate Yoghurt.
It is the only cows' milk yoghurt made in Northern Ireland, and is to become available across the province thanks to a valuable deal just signed with supermarket giant, Sainsbury's.
Lady Dufferin's herd of pedigree Holstein and Jersey cows are the drivers for the Bangor business and are now putting this small yoghurt company firmly on the map.
From this week, pots of the creamy Natural and Greek style yoghurts made from their high quality milk and branded with the animals' portraits will be hitting shelves of Sainsbury's 10 local stores.
Michael McCambley, Sainsbury's Northern Ireland Commercial Buyer said: "Providing high quality, locally sourced products is a key objective for Sainsbury's in Northern Ireland.
"Clandeboye Estate Yoghurt is an excellent example of the type of quality product we expect for our customers," he said.
As an enthusiastic supporter of local farming and heritage, Lady Dufferin believes much of the success of Clandeboye Estate Yoghurt is a result of the changing shopping habits of consumers.
"At last it seems that the importance of supporting local farming and fresh local produce is moving higher up on the agenda for households in Northern Ireland," says Lady Dufferin.
"We've always been proud of our lush green fields and healthy livestock in Northern Ireland but our farming industry can only be sustained and made commercially viable if consumers choose to buy locally made products.
"We took a bold move to invest in the yoghurt business at Clandeboye but we recognised that there was a need to diversify and add value to our milk to guarantee the commercial future of this large working estate, support from the big retail players such as Sainsbury's is helping us move in the right direction," said the Co Down landowner.
Last October, another supermarket giant, Tesco, agreed to stock the award-winning Clandeboye Yoghurt in 14 of its key Tesco stores across the Province.
At the time, they said that the 'fresh' idea for the yoghurt came from the historic Co Down Clandeboye Estate where forward-thinking owner Lady Dufferin, has been determined to 'add value' to the plentiful supply of quality milk produced by her own cows.
