Mental Health Problems To Cost NI Economy Over £3.5bn In 2009
Carecall, One of Northern Ireland's leading employee support providers has warned local businesses that hidden mental health problems in the workplace are costing the NI economy over a staggering £3.5bn every year.
With the global economic recession affecting employees both at work and home, depression, financial strain, job security and stress are set to soar in the workplace this year and the hidden problems surrounding mental health will affect business drastically on every level.
Peter McBride, Managing Director of Carecall is challenging local businesses to combat the problems, which cause stress and mental health issues in the workplace with their conference on January 30, 2009 in Ormeau Baths Gallery, Belfast with internationally acclaimed stress expert, Professor. Cary Cooper.
Mr McBride said: "Stress and depression are costing the UK economy over £60bn and our economy £3.5bn every year. This highlights that many businesses are not offering employees the support system that they need for mental health and wellbeing.
He adds: "This cost is a huge wake up call for Northern Ireland to make positive changes in the workplace."
Carecall is set to break through mental barriers with the anticipated 'Your People, Your Future' conference where Professor Cary Cooper will offer business leaders innovative solutions for the workplace.
Professor Cooper’s progressive techniques on stress management and wellbeing have been making positive changes for employees and employers worldwide.
Professor. Cooper has also recently appeared on BBC’s 'The One Show' with Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles as an expert for their stress week, which attracted a record seven million viewers.
Peter said: "We are delighted to welcome Professor Cary Cooper to the province to inspire local businesses in all areas of stress management.
"The conference aims to offer practical solutions for everyone in the current economic climate and we hope that with a little help from Carecall, there will be increased productivity, motivation and confidence for all employees in 2009."
