Modest Boost For NI Housing And Schools
There's good news on both infrastructure and jobs this week as it has emerged that the Fold Housing Association has advertised a substantial project to build over a hundred new homes in Northern Ireland.
Work will cover the construction of 104 houses and eight flats while extensive remodelling and construction of retaining walls will also be included.
Between six and 10 bidders will be invited to tender for the two-year £20m job which will also provide much-needed employment within the construction sector with firms having until 5 January to 'express an interest'.
Meanwhile, a £40m project to build two new schools in Londonderry has been given the go ahead.
St Mary's College in Creggan will move to a new building on the Northland Road, and St Cecilia's College will relocate to a site on Bligh's Lane.
Work on the Derry-based Public Private Partnership will begin as soon as possible.
Schools Minister Caitríona Ruane said: "The new facilities will provide the pupils attending these schools with a rewarding educational experience and I look forward to visiting when they are complete."
The Principal of St Mary's College, Marie Lindsay, said the announcement has been a long time coming.

Report Confirms School Closures
A new report has revealed that a number of schools within the Catholic maintained sector are to close. According to a report by The Commission on Catholic Education schools including St Gemma’s in Belfast, St Peter’s in Londonderry, St Mary’s in Belleek, Drumcree College, Portadown and St Eugene’s in Castlederg are set to close.

Education Minister, Jane Kenedy today launched a new innovative school IT system that has been especially developed for children who are non-verbal and severely physically disabled. The CameraMouse system has been made possible with £200,000 from Executive Programme Funds.

Rescue Attempt As Man Scales City Crane
Police and the Fire and Rescue Service were last night called to a construction site in south Belfast to coax a man down from the top of a crane. A police spokesman said attempts were being made to bring the man to safety at the site in College Court after being alerted by a member of the public.
