Minister Lauds Completed Road Safety Measures

Stormont Transport Minister Conor Murphy has welcomed the completion of road safety measures in the Antrim area, which have been delivered through a £3.1m investment package from his department.

Meeting with Antrim Borough Council, the Minister said: "250 metres of footway has been constructed on the southern side of the Dunadry Road, at a cost of £124,000 between Clady Road and the railway bridge."

Mr Murphy said traffic management at the railway bridge has been improved with the introduction of a priority working system.

The Minister discussed the improved stopping sight distance on Lurgan Road, Crumlin, on the bend at the junction of the Cherryvalley Road

"The stopping sight distance has been improved by setting back the hedge and fencing, which has opened up the visibility around the bend for motorists both wanting to turn right into Cherryvalley Road and those proceeding on towards Lurgan," said Mr Murphy.

"Traffic calming measures costing £35,000 have been introduced on a number of streets in Randalstown. These included a number of residential areas as well as at the schools on Barnish Road and Craigstown Road," he added.

Other schemes still to be completed this financial year include junction visibility splay improvements at Craigstown Road / Ballylurgan Road, Staffordstown Road / Blackrock Road and at Castle Road / Milltown Road.

Road Service's Principal Engineer, Jim Campbell welcomed the continued investment in local transport and safety measures in the Antrim Council area.

Mr Campbell added: "We will minimise the disruption that will arise from our works and we will give motorists advance warning of road works through signage and information prior to works."
