Bhs to open new Abbeycentre store
A £14 million investment at the Abbeycentre Shopping complex in Newtownabbey will see the first British Home Stores (Bhs) store open outside Belfast.
The move by Bhs is part of the company's overall UK expansion programme and will see the retailer take over the space vacated by Tesco last year.
The new store will occupy 36,500 sq ft of floor space in the newly completed Phase Five part of the centre and will open in the autumn with the creation of 80 new jobs.
Tony Hatch, head of property of Bhs, said the choice of Abbeycentre reflected the faith they had in the centre's success as a retail complex
Bhs first came to Northern Ireland in 1965 when it opened a store in Belfast city centre.
Current owner Philip Green, who bought the company for £219 million two years ago, instigated the company's current expansion programme.
The company is now thought to worth between £700 million to £1.2 billion.
